Cathy Freeman

Catherine Astrid Salome freeman was born on the 16th of february 1973. Her first athletics coach was her step father-Bruce Barber. By her early teens she had many titles for the 100m, 200m sprint and high jump.She had three brothers, Gaven, Garth and Norman but sadly Norman died after a motor bike accident in 2008. She also has a sister named Anne-Marie. Anne-Marie suffers from Cerebral Palsy and lives her life in a home for disabled people.
In 1987 she moved to Kooralbyn International School where she was coached by Romanian Mike Danila.
In 1988 she was awarded a scholarship. In 1989 she ran 100m within 11.67seconds. In 1990 she got a Gold Medal in the Commonwealth Games at the age of 16. In 1993 she was awarded a Silver Medal in the 200m race. She also made it to the semi-finals. In 1997 in the 400m in the World Championships in Athens she came first. Cathy Freeman was mostly educated at Fairholme Collage in Toowoomba. Freeman also had a long term relationship with Nic Bideau her manager. Cathy Freeman retired in 2003 due to re-thinking her life. She retired at the age of 30. In 2009 she re-married but this time to James Murch. In 2011 she gave birth to a beautiful baby girl named Ruby Anne Susie Murch which is her first child. I dare say that this might be her only child at which she had it at the age of 38. WHAT A WONDERFUL AND INSPIRING MOTHER CATHY FREEMAN IS!:) Cathy Freeman is truly a wonderful representative of both the Aborigines and Australia. She has shown the world what Aboriginals can do! Here are some facts about Cathy Freeman. Just thought I might add them! Catherine means 'Pure', Astrid means 'Star' and Salome means 'Peace.' That is a wonderful combination of a name!
